The Te Deum (You are God) is an ancient
hymn of the church, sung for centuries across the world. In it,
the church of all times and places, heaven and earth, lifts its praises
to the Triune God. It has been set to music and chant too many
times to count. In this upbeat
contemporary rendition, the song of heaven and earth has become a
repeating chorus. "Holy, Holy, Holy" we sing again and again throughout
the song. The saving events of Christ's atoning work are
highlighted by being placed in a bridge with its own melody, set off
from the rest of the song to emphasize the central importance of the
cross.
Verse 1
You are God; we
praise You
You are the Lord; we acclaim You
Everlasting Father, all creation worships you
All the holy angels, All the powers of heaven
Cherubim and Seraphim sing in endless praise
Chorus
Holy, Holy, Holy God of power and might
Heaven and earth are filled with Your glory
You are holy, holy
You are holy, holy Lord
Verse 2
You are God; we
praise You
You are the Lord; we acclaim You
Everlasting Father, all creation worships you
The company of apostles, the fellowship of prophets, the army of
martyrs
In all the world, the church proclaims You
Verse 3
Father,
in majesty
Your only Son, worthy of all praise
And the Holy Spirit, counselor and guide
You, O Christ, are the King of Glory
The everlasting Son of the Father on High
Bridge
When you became a man to set us free
You humbled yourself, the virgin’s son
You triumphed over death and opened paradise
To all who believe in your name
Verse 4
You, O
Christ, at God’s right hand
You, O Christ, in glory now
We believe that you will come and be our judge
So help your people, bought with your own blood
Bring us with you saints, in glory evermore!
