Songs for Worship

Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.  Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV)

You Are The Vine

Background

Jesus is the vine and we are the branches.  This simple yet powerful image so aptly describes the nature of the Christian life.  Fruitfulness is the result of remaining in the vine.  When we face trials, we are called to see in them the love, pruning of the gardener, preparing us for greater fruitfulness.

This image of the vine and the branches rests especially close to home here in the Napa Valley where we are never too far from the sight of a vineyard.  Just as the local economy thrives on the fruitfulness of these vines, so also the life of those who call themselves disciples hinges on the fruit Christ, our Vine, works in us.

Bible Verses:

John 15:1-10

Themes:

Affliction, Assurance, Faith, Forgiveness, Intimacy with God, Life in Christ, Repentance, Sanctification

Lyrics

Chorus
You are the vine
We are the branches O Lord
We remain in You
You are the vine
We are the branches O Lord
We bear fruit for You

Verse 1
Like a branch is to the vine
So Your life's alive in mine
Oh let Your glory shine
Lord in You is fruitful gain
And without You all's in vain
On the vine I will remain

Verse 2
And when troubles come my way
And my skies have all turned gray
I'll have faith to face the day
Even though I may not see
It's the gardener pruning me
A more fruitful branch to be

Bridge
Forgive me O Lord
For the sinful fruit I have borne
When I'm living for myself
Instead of living for You
You alone can make me clean
Oh speak Your forgiving
That in You I may be living
